Intermediate-mass-fragment Production in Spallation Reactions

چکیده
Two mechanisms for the production of intermediate-mass fragments (IMF) were implemented in the statistical-model code ABLA07. At low excitation energies IMFs are emitted as evaporated nuclei. If the excitation energy of the system exceeds a given threshold, IMFs are formed in the simultaneous break-up of the system, modelled according to a power-law distribution, which is suggested by several theoretical models. The improved code was benchmarked on a large amount of experimental data, among which the high-precision data measured at

The Physics Problem of the Spallation Neutron Production Source Related to Accelerator-driven Systems
In present work, the SHIELD code system have been used to investigate the physics properties of spallation neutron target, such as the neutron spectra, the yield, the radioactivity in the target and the target size etc. The fragment mass distribution of the residual nuclei from proton-induced spallation reaction on thick lead target with energy 1.6 GeV have been analysed also. Radiation damage,...
متن کاملMerging the Cem2k and Laqgsm Codes with Gem2 to Describe Fission and Light-fragment Production
We present the current status of the improved Cascade-Exciton Model (CEM) code CEM2k and of the Los Alamos version of the Quark-Gluon String Model code LAQGSM. To describe fission and light-fragment (heavier than He4) production, both CEM2k and LAQGSM have been merged with the GEM2 code of Furihata. We present some results on protonand deuteron-induced spallation, fission, and fragmentation rea...
متن کاملNew generation of measurements and model developments on nuclide production in spallation reactions
With its powerful installations, GSI, Darmstadt, provides unique conditions for fundamental and applied research on a variety of subjects in nuclear physics and other fields with heavy-ion beams of stable and radioactive species. Intensive work on nuclear data is being made e.g. on nuclear masses, half lives, nuclide yields from lowenergy fission, and nuclide production in spallation reactions....
متن کاملSpallation reactions – physics and applications
Spallation reactions have become an ideal tool for studying the equation of state and thermal instabilities of nuclear matter. In astrophysics, the interactions of cosmic rays with the interstellar medium have to be understood in detail for deducing their original composition and their production mechanisms. Renewed interest in spallation reactions with protons around 1 GeV came up recently wit...
متن کاملCrossover from a fission-evaporation scenario towards multifragmentation in spallation reactions
Mostly for the purpose of applications for the energy and the environment and for the design of sources of neutrons or exotic nuclides, intense research has been dedicated to spallation, induced by protons or light projectiles at incident energies of around 1 GeV. In this energy range, while multifragmentation has still a minor share in the total reaction cross section, it was observed to have,...
